3 ways to experience self-care at home

Is it possible for our homes to feel like a space of self-care?

I have been challenging myself to tackle this question because honestly, for many of us it’s not sustainable, financially realistic, and can be inconvenient to think we always need to spend a lot of money or go somewhere in order to have self care time. And when we are restricted by circumstances, we might find ourselves taking care of ourselves less and less. But, what if, in small ways our homes can be a place of experiencing tiny moments of self-care?

how to experience calm right in your home

matcha latte with Aiya Match To Go Sticks

Make your favorite drink at home. There is something about taking a few minutes to make something for yourself. I love making my matcha latte with steamed oat milk and this matcha to go sticks that is unsweetened and easy for one serving. It’s extra special with my Michigan made Grayling Ceramics mug.

Create a physical space (even if it’s a corner!) that you can go to for a few minutes each day. Mine happens to be my yoga room, but it doesn’t have to be a whole room. It can be a corner, your desk, maybe even your bed, or that spot by the staircase that has the best light. Wherever your piece of the corner is, try to personalize it for you so that each time you encounter it, it gives you a moment of peace. Maybe you place your favorite plant there or a photo that makes you smile, or even a cozy pillow or a blanket.

Look for the shadows and light. This is a strange, but cool thing I love to do that only takes a few minutes. If you have a space in your home that gets great light, spend a few minutes just looking at the shadows and how it changes. It’s relaxing and I call it shadow meditation. You can play calm music if that helps, but do it in silence. I find it calming and fun.

Next time you are waiting for that next facial appointment or that getaway trip, I believe we can experiences tiny moments of calm and care right in our homes. We are deserving of care.
