Spencer, Ann Arbor Restaurant

We had a chance to collaborate with Destination Ann Arbor for their fine dining experiences by eating at one of our favorites, Spencer. We had previously dined here before for a birthday and day wine. It was a treat to go back. Here is our honest review.

Ambience:

Spencer in Ann Arbor is a neighborhood wine shop and restaurant that gives you a one-of-a-kind experience that is met with both luxury and coziness. The space is inviting and elegant with warm lights, relaxed communal seating in a quaint space that doesn't feel stuffy.

Quality/Food:

Fixed menus at Spencer are intentional. Generous portions, seasoned perfectly, each dish prepares you for the next. The escarole salad in particular was perfect with sweet persimmon that was sliced like a tomato and paired well with refreshing mint leaves. The tender pork milanese with pickled squash and tagliatelle with chestnut and mushroom made two beautiful winter main dishes.

Service:

We appreciated being able to sample the wine before committing to a glass as well as a fun non-alcoholic option (rosemary lemon soda), especially for a wine shop. We were seated promptly at our scheduled reservation. From start to finish, the wait staff checked in periodically, but not overly done.

Overall Experience:

You don't need to travel far to experience luxury. Whether it's getting together with friends, a romantic date, or a special occasion with family, the laid back yet elegant atmosphere welcomes all. It's also nice not having to browse through a large menu with only a handful of add-on items. Fixed menus at Spencer will leave you delighted with appreciation for seasonal ingredients.
